Demand PK Supply: MDI Industry to Enter Boom Period

PUdaily, Shanghai- In the next four years, the demand for MDI will exceed MDI supply, which will stimulate MDI industry in boom in 2 to 3 years. Currently, there are eight MDI manufacturers in the world and it is estimated that except Yantai Wanhua (to establish 300ktpa MDI plant in 2010), no new capacity will be increased before the year of 2013.
Generally speaking, 300ktpa capacity increases based on the current over 6000ktpa capacity around the world only account for 1.7 percent of total capacity in the next three years. On the other hand, as the global annual demand growth for MDI is chiefly over 2 to 3 percent of GDP in nearly 20 years, the demand for MDI will be overwhelming compared with global supply growth of MDI even if the next 3 years growth of global economy is zero.
